Hands On Outreach & Development Centre is a registered charitable organization dedicated to serving the physical, information pills emotional and spiritual needs of Saskatoon’s inner city children and youth. On a daily basis we provide a safe environment, healthy meals, clothing, activities and entertainment such as books, videos, ping pong, billiards, foosball, board games, hockey, basketball, football, arts and crafts.

Hands On is the vision of founder and CEO, Rick Langlais, who opened the doors of the ministry in 1992. Today Rick, his staff, and the Hands On Board of Directors operate the centre exclusively with charitable donations and a vast network of hard-working volunteers. Hands On has proven to be a valuable practical training resource for students from local colleges, the University of Saskatchewan and various churches.

Does Hands On make a difference?

The following comments speak for themselves.*

“I would like to say thank-you for a few different reasons. (1) For opening many of our eyes to what goes on in our very own community. (2) For allowing me the opportunity to communicate with the kids, my husband & I plan on coming to see them soon. (3) And last but not least, for allowing me to cry. I myself grew up in an abusive home for the last 16 years of my life, and have never really cried. I only wish that there would have been someone as caring & thoughtful as you around. You are doing a lot for these kids, you obviously have a HUGE heart, and don’t ever forget that.  Katie

Thank you very much for all that you do. It is excellent work and it is great to know that there are still people in this world who do care and it shows. The area is very comfortable. I’m honored to have been blessed to cross paths with such a great bunch of men. Thank you for everything…Much love, respect forever.”  Kimberly

“To all of the people that participate and make Hands On a great program, God bless you! Being a mother of two and knowing people like you guys care—it’s great for our community and the young ones! I thank you too (I’m a very grateful person) [and] like to see people in our community making an effort for us. It’s people like you guys that give a lot of people hope in life and teach them how there is wrong from right with activities, love, and caring, opening a door to a bright future and [giving] some tools to do it with! Pat yourself on the back and thank you so much! – Jessica

“Rick, the work you do with and for our inner city kids is honourable and compassionate to the highest extent. You are  a soldier of love and fight hard for what you believe in. Stay strong and keep fighting for what you believe in.   Desiree

“Rick your presentation was amazing. How moving, sobering, and enlightening. I have wanted to be a social worker for a very long time and originally hoped to work for the government, now i hope to work for a program like yours. You are bettering our city and forcing our naive youth to remove their rose coloured glasses and be aware of the city around them. Thank you so much for sharing, absolutely amazing. ” Dylan

“Richard, it was an honor and privilege to have met you and to hear your journey. You are truly an act of god, in what it is that  you continue to do, day in and day out, i commend you. God Bless”

“Rick, thank you so much for your passionate speech. It gives me hope to know that people can change! The way you presented yourself was open and honest, and i can tell you care a great deal about the children you help. You have turned into a blessing to our society and i wish there were more people in the world like you! Thanks for caring!”  Darcie

“Rick, thanks so much for coming to our class! You really opened my eyes about what’s really going on around me and in my life. I have had hard times in my life and you helped me remember that i have so much i can give to others, if just to let them know they are not alone and can get through this. Thanks, you really make a difference in this world.”

“You’re presentation blew my mind….. I am so happy that there are still people like you in our world that truly care about others and their well-being. I think you should know you are a blessing for many people in Saskatchewan. Thank you for coming!”

Rick, your presentation was an eye opener. People know that there is more crime in the downtown area and the extent of the danger to kids is horrific. I am a mother of two small boys, and to know that someone like you is there to keep an eye out for other innocent kids is a relief. you have had such a hard life and i am glad you were able to turn things around for yourself. Hopefully you can change the fate for many (if not all) of these kids, so that no one would have to go through the years of hardship you endured. I am glad you have decided to give them one. Great Work!, Jennifer

“Keep up the great work! Your story really put some things into perspective for me. I knew there were somethings going on, but i didn’t think it was that bad. It also started me thinking about ancient soldiers, like the samurai, which means protector. They had a hard job to do that most of the time meant fighting with someone, but their role was crucial for the survival of their society. God work utilizing the power of the people but also remembering that one person can make a difference. I hope everything works out for you and maybe one day ill stop by. Alex”

“Rick your presentation never gets boring or loses its meaning. I’ve seen it twice now and all i have to say is you’re not a monster, you are an angel sent down to protect these kids, because no one else will. God bless you.”

“Hey Rick, I thought your presentation was really good. I liked hearing about your story, how you grew up, and what you did in your youth. What you’re doing for these kids is really great and doing it without funding from anyone, now that’s something. I know what you’re doing for these kids is making a difference. Its nice to see a good person out there. Keep it up pal!”

“Rick, you are an angel for us all ..and i do believe that you have many angels watching over you . I have known you for many years and I am very proud of you and what you are doing for a lot of people. Like Cathi Jo said, just keep on keepin’ on my friend!! God bless! Dear Jesus thank you for watching over my friend and i pray that you give him the strength, courage and patience to do whatever you have planned for him and his ministry. Amen”  Brain Gliege
